Minnesota Timberwolves point guard target No. 3: Russell Westbrook, Washington Wizards

Russell Westbrook is in a weird situation with the Washington Wizards. The team is stuck on being a fringe playoff team but isn’t good enough to actually compete in the playoffs.

Westbrook has been a hit-or-miss player, especially recently. The end of his tenure with Oklahoma City was underwhelming and that didn’t change at all when he got traded to the Houston Rockets. His shooting woes have continually got worse and worse and at some points, he even seems like a liability offensively in the playoffs. That being said, he’ll have significantly more help in Minnesota with Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards.

His ability as a pure passer makes him a perfect fit with the Timberwolves. As one of the best rebounding guards of all time, it’ll take more of the pressure off of KAT to be a force down low. Westbrook alone averaged 11.5 rebounds per game last season which would account for about 25% of the Timberwolves total rebounds per game in 2020.

Westbrook’s value is significantly higher in other facets of the game as opposed to his scoring ability. His ball-dominant tendencies may cause problems with Edwards and KAT but it’s worth a shot to get an elite playmaker.
