NBA: Ranking every MVP winner in league history: 30. Bob McAdoo

Stats:

  • 22.1 points
  • 9.4 rebounds

Accomplishments:

  • 5 time All-Star
  • 2 time NBA champ
  • 1 time MVP

The greatness of Bob McAdoo isn’t talked about nearly as much as it should. During a day and age where guys who score 20 points and grab 10 points are glorified, McAdoo did that in his sleep. During his early years, he was a flat-out monster. On three separate occasions, McAdoo averaged at least 30 points and grabbed 12 boards.

That level of dominance ultimately led to a boatload of awards. Three times McAdoo led the league in scoring, five times he was selected to the All-Star game. Also, more importantly, McAdoo was a contributing member of two Los Angeles Laker championship teams. But, unfortunately for McAdoo, those championships knocked him down a few spots on this list.

While the two golden balls sitting on his mantle at home are great eye candy, by the time McAdoo actually won them, he was a shell of his former self. Take for example his 1984-85 championship season. During the Lakers playoff run, McAdoo averaged only 10.8 points and 4.5 rebounds. Ultimately, that became a detriment to his ranking.
