NBA: Ranking every MVP winner in league history: 12. Kevin Durant

Stats:

  • 27. points
  • 7.1 rebounds
  • 49.4% from the field

Accomplishments:

  • 11 time All-Star
  • 9 time All-NBA
  • 1 time MVP
  • 2 time NBA champ
  • 2 time Finals MVP

From just a talent perspective, Kevin Durant deserves to be much higher on this list. For the thousands upon thousands of players that have appeared in an NBA game, Durant is the most unique of them all.

Standing at seven feet tall, Durant plays nothing like a big man. He gets the ball behind the three-point line, crosses defenders over and then proceeds to hit jump shot after jump shot. It doesn’t seem fair what he’s able to do on offense and on defense, he’s proven that he’s more than capable of holding his own.

Durant has a long list of accomplishments. 11 All-Star appearances, 4-time scoring champ, 9 teams All-NBA, an MVP award and two NBA championships. But, it’s the way he’s been able to get those aforementioned rings that bring him way down this list.

After completely melting down with a 3-1 lead over the Golden State Warriors in 2016, Durant opted to join the very team that just defeated him. With that, Durant officially conjured up an unbeatable team and easily took home two titles. Now, during his most recent venture, Durant has gotten a bunch of superstar players to join him on the Brooklyn Nets.

With Durant’s penchant to join bandwagons and create them as opposed to fighting through adversity, it knocks him several pegs down this list.
