NBA: Ranking every MVP winner in league history: 27. Giannis Antetokounmpo

Stats:

  • 20.9 points
  • 9.1 rebounds
  • 53.2% from the field

Accomplishments:

  • 5 time All-Star
  • 6 All-NBA
  • 4 time Defensive
  • 2 MVP

It’s still very early in the career of Giannis Antetokounmpo but he’s put together the sort of career that other NBA players only dream of.

Despite being ranked near the bottom of this list, Antetokounmpo has two MVP trophies to his name. For the “Greek Freak”, things come easy in the regular season. With the number of horrific basketball teams that are sprinkled around the league, Antetokounmpo finds it fairly easy to walk into a city and wreck a team vying for the bottom half of the playoffs or hoping to make a splash in the NBA Draft. But when it comes to winning time, he has a long way to go.

There are simply too many holes in the game of Antetokounmpo at the moment. His game is a fairly simple one. He runs full speed towards the lane, spins and dunks. That’s it.

While he’s nearly seven feet, Antetokounmpo hasn’t developed a back-to-the-basket game. Shooting from the three is virtually impossible for him at the moment, his mid-range game is nonexistent, and seeing him at the foul line is a welcomed sight for the opposition.

Still, even with all his deficiencies, he’s still managed to rack up the awards. But, if he wants to attach some championship hardware to his name, he’ll need to either rapidly improve his game or take a backseat to a better player.
