Giannis Antetokounmpo puts up big numbers in big games

When it mattered most, Giannis Antetokounmpo came up big. After falling behind two games to none, the pundits were saying that the Bucks had no chance of making a comeback. It did not help matters that Milwaukee’s game 2 loss came by way of a 39-point margin. Things did not look good.

There’s an old adage that says “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” Giannis and the Bucks proved that to be true for the remainder of the series. On his way to helping his team even the series at two games apiece, Antetokounmpo scored 33 points and 34 points respectively in games three and four. If Milwaukee had lost either one of those games, it’s hard to imagine they could’ve won the series. Overcoming a 3-1 deficit to a team as talented as Brooklyn would be next to impossible.

Giannis’s big efforts in games three and four would become a theme for the rest of the series. When he performed up to his MVP level, his team emerged victoriously. The numbers helped to tell the story. In Milwaukee’s three losses, Antetokounmpo averaged 28.67 points, 11.33 rebounds and 4 assists. In their four wins, he averaged 34.25 points, 14 rebounds and 3.25 assists.

Big-time players show up in big games. Not only did Giannis have great averages in his team’s victories, but he also saved the best for last, scoring 40 points to close the show in Game 7.
