NBA: The 30 most unforgettable individual playoff runs: 2. Michael Jordan (1990)
This was the last season for Michael Jordan in a Chicago Bulls uniform that would not result in a championship. Jordan had another astounding regular season, leading the league in scoring for the fourth consecutive season (the streak would be 10 of 11 seasons with the only miss being the aforementioned shortened 1995 season). This was to be the moment he moved past his foes of years past.
The playoffs were a tour de force, averaging 36.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game. In the first round, they handled the Bucks in four games, with Jordan putting up 48 points in the only loss. Against the Sixers in the second round, the Bulls needed five games to get past them. Jordan averaged 43.0 points per game in the series and never scored less than 37.
The familiar roadblock that was the Bad Boy Detroit Pistons, fresh off the franchise’s first NBA Championship. Jordan dealt with the “Jordan Rules” and pushed the series all the way to a deciding seventh game but overcoming his foe would have to wait one more year. In the series, Jordan still managed a line of 32.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.
