NBA: The 30 most unforgettable individual playoff runs: 13. Larry Bird (1984)
The 1980s were the decade of the Boston Celtics and 1984 may have been the best run Larry Bird had. This was his second run to a championship but he was on another level with a bit of comfortability and confidence, not something he has ever lacked.
Over the course of the playoffs, he averaged 27.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.3 steals and 2.1 blocks per game. He was able to take a title away from his forever-rival Magic Johnson after getting past the Washington Bullets, New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks along the way.
Larry Legend is a nickname he earned with years of clutch performances and the 1984 postseason was no different. Knocking off the Bucks was specifically special, considering they had eliminated the Celtics the year prior in a sweep. This Finals may be more remembered for the famous fight resulting from a flagrant foul committed by Kurt Rambis but that does not take away from the level of dominance shown by Bird. He was everything Boston wanted in a star and played like one when it mattered most. Building a rivalry between the two most storied franchises in league history took the league to a better place.
