Philadelphia 76ers playoff goals No. 1: Fix Ben Simmons’ free throws

In the series against the Wizards, Simmons was targeted in the late stages of game four, when the game was close, being intentionally fouled. The Hawks then employed the same tactics in the first game of their second-round series.

The problem for Simmons and the 76ers is that he is a career 59.7 percent free-throw shooter. This is a very poor number for a potential superstar in the league. It could mean the difference between the 76ers being champions or not during his time as their point guard.

So far in these playoffs, Simmons has made 13-of-38 from the line. This is only good for 34.2 percent which may mean that he is not able to be on the floor at the end of the game. This is the crucial time that the 76ers need to have all their best players on the court, especially if they can make it through to the finals.

Given that his percentage is so far down on his career number, it has got to be a mental issue for Simmons making free throws. Whether it is talking to the sports psychologist or just putting up a massive number of free throws in practice, it is crucial that he fix this issue.
