Brooklyn Nets: 3 crucial goals for their run through the NBA playoffs
Brooklyn Nets playoff goals No. 3: Defend the perimeter
The Nets have certainly prioritized offense over defense this season. Where this is especially visible is on the perimeter. Offensively the Nets were second in the league in 3-point percentage. They shot the long ball at an incredible 39.2 percent as a team.
Conversely, on the defensive end, the Nets have allowed opponents to take 36.2 attempts from deep which was 23rd in the league. Their opponents made 13.2 per game which was 22nd in the league. This led to their opponents shoot the 3-ball at 36.5 percent which was 14th in the league.
Again, this is not a huge problem in the regular season. Playing against the lower teams, they can afford to be a little lax on their perimeter defense. However, when you get into the playoffs, you are playing against the best teams in the league. As a result, they are going to be better from the perimeter than the eliminated teams.
The level of defense also ramps up in the postseason, meaning that the Nets might not find it as easy to score from the perimeter. With the percentages potentially leveling out, the Nets need to do the same and make life harder for their opponent from behind the line.
