Boston Celtics offseason roster moves No. 5: Re-sign Evan Fournier

Evan Fournier was acquired at the deadline by the Celtics in a trade with the Orlando Magic. It only cost the Celtics backup point guard Jeff Teague to get the job done. The Magic were dismantling their team and the Celtics certainly took advantage.

Since his arrival in Boston, Fournier has averaged 13.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 29.5 minutes per game. He shot the ball well, going at 44.8 percent from the floor, 46.3 percent from deep, and 71.4 percent from the floor.

All of this points to a player who needs to get some time in the rotation where he can take the pressure off the Celtics stars. He only played 16 regular-season games since coming across, starting 10 of them.

If the Celtics can trade Walker, then having the floor spacing and finishing of Fournier as the two-guard will certainly help the next starting point guard. He has the ability to produce more points and has shown that his game fits well in the Celtics system.

Fournier’s Bird rights were traded to the Celtics which means they can offer him whatever they want to keep him.  This is going to be a crucial move for the Celtics if they want to continue to be competitive next season.
