Boston Celtics offseason roster moves No. 4: Trade Kemba Walker

When the Celtics traded for Kemba Walker, they were hoping that he would be able to fit seamlessly with the teams’ future, Brown and Tatum. The problem is that Walker has been injured too often since joining the Celtics.

He only played 56 games in his first season and then just 43 this season. This is not good enough for the franchise if they are paying him $34 million this season, and $36 million next season. Walker then has a player option with $37.6 million in the final year of his deal.

Given that the Celtics need to improve their standing in the East, having Walker’s contract off the books would certainly be beneficial. While he is an extremely talented point guard, the Celtics have a need to improve their roster They could take a hit at the point guard position, in an effort to upgrade some other spots.

As Walker is already 30 years of age, his body is not going to get much better unless he takes on a Chris Paul-type full diet transformation. There will be a number of teams who could absorb the large contract like Walker’s.
