Houston Rockets roster move No. 1: Move on from Dante Exum and Kelly Olynyk

The Rockets have a lot of decisions they need to make in the coming offseason. They have five players who are coming off contract this season and two of them need to not have their contracts renewed with the Rockets.

The first one is Kelly Olynyk who the Rockets received in the trade they made when they sent Oladipo to the Miami Heat. Olynyk put up some good numbers, going at 19.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.6 blocks in 31.1 minutes per game. He is going to command some big money in the offseason and the Rockets need to spend it elsewhere.

Exum is at the other end of the scale. The Australian has had a really bad history with injury and despite that, the Utah Jazz signed him to a three-year deal worth $27.3 million back in the 2018 offseason. Exum has simply never lived up to his status as the fifth pick in the 2014 draft.

Now that he is at the end of that deal, the Rockets need to move on from the 25-year-old as he does not fit their timeline. Without the salary of these two on the books, the Rockets will have $22 million to play with.
