Former Pistons flourishing in the NBA playoffs: Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson

The duo of Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson will be remembered in Detroit for being part of an era of Pistons basketball that felt like it had so much promise. Particularly after a trade-deadline deal in 2015-16 brought Tobias Harris to Detroit, it suddenly looked like a team building for the future.

Then it turned out Jackson had one bad wheel when his knee failed him, Stan Van Gundy couldn’t figure out how to develop rookies or young players, Andre Drummond kept developing and adding layers to his game (but it was never enough), and the promise was swiftly snuffed out.

Now, they’re both in Los Angeles. Jackson joined the LA Clippers after getting bought out by the Pistons last season, and Drummond plays for the Los Angeles Lakers after getting bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Jackson has been solid for the Clippers in the first four games of the playoffs, starting two of those games and averaging 12.0 points and 2.8 assists.

As for Drummond, he’s had a tumultuous time getting acclimated with the Lakers, but he seems to be on the upswing as he plays more with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If nothing else, the Lakers are better with him than without him so far in the NBA playoffs, and with Davis’s groin strain, his new team is going to need his best performances yet just to get past the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
