Dallas Mavericks: 3 critical goals for their NBA playoff run
Dallas Mavericks playoff goal No. 3: Keep other players involved
As mentioned on the previous slide, it is incredibly difficult for a team to win a series on the back of one player. When the Mavericks have been at their best in this playoff series is when other players are involved.
In the first game, Doncic had a triple-double. However, Tim Hardaway Jr. had 21 points, Dorian Finney-Smith had 18 points, Jalen Brunson had 15 points, and Porzingis had 14 points. In the second game, the Mavericks also had multiple contributors.
Doncic missed his triple-double but had 39 points. Hardaway had 28 points, Porzingis had 20 points, and Maxi Kleber had 13 points. The big three are all getting their numbers in a win, and there is a different supporting member who is stepping up each game.
In the third game, Doncic almost got a 44 point-triple double. However, the supporting cast had much smaller nights, Kleber and Brunson both had 14 points, and Hardaway only had 12 points. Porzingis had a poor night with only nine points.
When Doncic tries to take the game over, he allows the opposition to focus their defense on him. As his career progresses, Doncic will learn when it is time to pass and time to shoot. When this happens, he will make his team one of the hardest to beat.
