It doesn’t seem like that long ago that the Los Angeles Lakers had a near-historic hill to climb in the pursuit of their own 18th NBA championship and the fifth title in LeBron James‘s illustrious career.
Maybe it’s a stretch to call it the hardest road in history to the NBA Finals, but the path was a rocky one to say the least. It’s certainly a more challenging route to the Finals than the one the Lakers took last season in the NBA bubble, although simply being in the bubble for months was a huge test of will, focus and desire. It was a test these Lakers passed with flying colors.

Now, the Lakers have taken control of their future in these playoffs. They won a hard-fought play-in game against the Golden State Warriors to get into the postseason in the first place, and after dropping Game 1 of the first round against the Phoenix Suns, they’ve come roaring back to win Games 2 and 3.
Instead of being on the ropes themselves, they’ve got the Suns backed into a corner and another win at Staples Center on Sunday could all but seal the deal for them.
