Veteran trade No. 3 for the Houston Rockets: John Wall

It should be a surprise to absolutely nobody that John Wall is the center for this piece. This isn’t a knock on Wall at all, rather it’s a knock on the situation he was put in to start the year.

Wall was the perfect point guard to pair with James Harden. He was a respectable 3-point shooter, could get to the rim with ease and was a good passer. The problem that arose was Harden wanting out.

With Harden gone and several other veteran players following suit, it was obvious it was time for a change. The team tried to compete with Wall and Victor Oladipo, but the team couldn’t overcome injuries and it just wasn’t the same team anymore.

Now that Oladipo is gone too, Wall is the odd man out. A star who was brought in to compete for a championship that ended the year competing for the No. 1 overall pick. Should the Rockets embrace their rebuild, they should do the right thing and trade him to a team that has a chance of competing.

Acquiring more young players would be the ideal scenario in this trade but draft capital also works. Wall has lost enough of his career due to injuries, there’s no reason to waste potentially the last few years on a team with no shot of winning.
