Veteran trade No. 1 for the Houston Rockets: Eric Gordon

Eric Gordon should probably be the first player to go on this Rockets team. He took a huge step back after the end of the 2018 season. He completely lost his touch and couldn’t get shots to fall and was no longer a viable scoring option for Houston’s high-octane offense. His case for staying doesn’t look much better after he only played in 27 games as he missed a majority of the season with leg and groin injuries.

Gordon was once a large part of the Rockets’ success as he was the primary ball-handler and go-to guy with the second unit or whenever James Harden and Chris Paul were off the court. His value is still relatively high as he could be a good bench piece for a championship contender or a perennial playoff team. There’s no role for Gordon anymore as the focus should be shifting from competing for a title to embracing the rebuild.

Being able to offload EG’s contract may be a little difficult. It would probably require a pick or another player to get a deal done but if it’s for draft capital or younger assets then it is absolutely worth the price.
