Houston Rockets free-agent target No. 3: Lonzo Ball – PG

The Houston Rockets number one priority during the offseason should be to acquire Lonzo Ball. The New Orleans Pelicans point guard’s camp has expressed that he’d like to play elsewhere in 2021, specifically in a bigger market. Houston is one of the largest media markets in the country.

Ball is a restricted free agent going into the 2021 offseason which means that the New Orleans Pelicans have the ability to match any contract he’s offered. For Lonzo to get to Houston, it would most likely be way of a sign and trade. Whether he would come over in a package surrounding John Wall or even sending Eric Gordon back to the Big Easy, or just being allowed to walk by the Pelicans is uncertain.

What the rest of the young corps of KPJ, Tate and Wood needs is a facilitating, floor general of a point guard who can create his own shots while setting up for others. Ball is finally hitting his stride as an NBA player years after everyone categorized him as a bust. He’s already a borderline All-Star caliber point guard and could very easily reach that potential under Coach Silas and alongside several ball dominant players.

Ball’s game has drastically improved each season whether that be his perimeter shooting or just overall offensive arsenal or through his continuous growth as a defender into one of the best defensive guards in the NBA. With the low expectations that the Rockets will be facing for the next two or three seasons, Ball will have all the time in the world to flourish and grow alongside his teammates.
