Worst NBA draft pick Brooklyn Nets general manager Sean Marks has made: Dzanan Musa

Sean Marks became the General Manager for the Brooklyn Nets in February 2016, taking over a team that was in dire straits. Their immediate future draft capital was tied up in a long-standing trade with the Boston Celtics, so Marks would have to make moves on the fringes to improve the roster.

Most of the picks Marks has made have been quite good. One stands out, though, as rather terrible. Dzanan Musa was drafted 29th overall and was often referred to by Nets fans as the worst player in the league. This level of criticism is hyperbolic, but Musa was not good during his short time in the league. Over two seasons, he appeared in just 49 games where he averaged 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game on shooting splits of .376/227/.726. Hoping to come in as an effective shooter, his 49 games were an example of the exact opposite.

Musa was out of the league after his second season. He was traded last offseason to the Detroit Pistons as part of a three-team trade that brought Landry Shamet, Reggie Perry and Bruce Brown to the Nets. Musa would never play for the Pistons, being almost immediately waived before he would head back to the Turkish League. If only they had taken Mitchell Robinson or Gary Trent Jr. instead.
