Worst NBA draft pick Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst has made: DJ Wilson

Jon Horst took over as general manager in June 2017, taking over for John Hammond (more on him later). Horst has been an elite executive in the league since taking over, heading up the rise of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks as an elite contender. However, he missed badly on a pick that could have bolstered their depth even more.

It was a week after he took the job that Horst oversaw his first draft and the Bucks had the 17th pick in the first round. There were plenty of future players still on the board who would blossom while still on their rookie contracts, including John Collins, Jarrett Allen, OG Anunoby, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart. Instead, the Milwaukee Bucks selected DJ Wilson.

Wilson would deal with injuries while bouncing back and forth to the G-League. Over four seasons, Wilson would appear in 119 games for the Bucks but was unable to make a consistent impact. He was never able to put his talents together, watching his efficiency slip and his opportunities disappearing as the team got better. As the Bucks are getting increasingly more expensive adding a young, cost-controlled talent would have given them both a chance to bolster their talent and add a trade chip to strengthen their title contention.
