NBA Draft: Worst pick every current general manager has made
By Corey Rausch
Worst NBA draft pick Memphis Grizzlies general manager Zach Kleiman has made: Brandon Clarke
Back to another newer general manager, Zach Kleiman has only been the man in charge of the Memphis Grizzlies since April 2019. While he has made multiple picks most of them are pretty good. In just two drafts he has added Ja Morant, Brandon Clarke, Desmond Bane and Xavier Tillman. Getting three rotation players from picks 21 or later is impressive in its own right, but one of them has to be the worst.
For me, the answer is Brandon Clarke. So far he has been better than Xavier Tillman but the gap in talent is not commensurate with how much higher Clarke was drafted. He was named to the All-Rookie last year and has since seen his statistics dip across the board. If the regression continues those may be the last accolades we connect to Brandon Clarke. Of note, he has dropped from 64.2 effective field goal percentage to 53.5. Needless to say, that’s not great.
Ultimately the talent left on the board may have been slower to develop but the potential is much higher than what Clarke is showing at the moment. Jordan Poole, Keldon Johnson, Kevin Porter Jr. and Talen Horton-Tucker have all looked better than him at times this season.
