Worst NBA draft pick Indiana Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan has made: Cassius Stanley

Chad Buchanan has been the Indiana Pacers general manager since just after the 2017 NBA Draft. Since then, he has drafted Aaron Holiday, Alize Johnson, Goga Bitadze and Cassius Stanley. Bitadze has shown flashes of promise but does not get nearly enough minutes to prove himself on a team with too many centers for his development to stand a chance. Johnson played in just 31 games for the Pacers over two seasons but has started to put things together with the Brooklyn Nets so far this season.  Aaron Johnson has been solid.

So far, Stanley looks to be the worst of the bunch, albeit while being the one given the least amount of time. Stanley has played just 78 minutes so far but when comparing him to three players who look at a minimum to be rotation players going forward there is enough to question whether Stanley will ever stick as one.  If his appearance is in the Slam Dunk Contest is any indication, he may not have long to make an impact.

This is unfair to Stanley, admittedly. He left after just one year at Duke and is still only 21 years old. There is certainly the chance that this looks like the wrong choice in a years’ time, much like how much Johnson has improved since moving on to Brooklyn.
