NBA Draft: Worst pick every current general manager has made
By Corey Rausch
Worst NBA draft pick Houston Rockets general manager Rafael Stone has made: Kenyon Martin Jr.
Another first year general manager, another opportunity to react too far too small of sample size. In this case, the worst pick for Rafael Stone is also his best pick, as the Houston Rockets only had one selection in the 2020 NBA Draft. Kenyon Martin Jr. was selected in the second round of this year’s draft.
Martin has been fine so far, averaging 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field. He has the promise of a famous name and talent that could carry him to impressive heights.
This will be the first season that it will be discernible what Rafael Stone looks for in a draft selection. Martin was a potential play that could be telling of what he will be looking for. As long as the lottery balls do not completely go against them it will be interesting to see if he goes with more of a sure thing or swings for the fences. There is no win-now for the Houston Rockets so taking a chance to reset their culture in Stone’s image. If Martin and the signing of Jae’Sean Tate are any indications, hard work may be the trait of choice.
