Sacramento Kings who could be traded: Harrison Barnes

Another player that could be on the move via trade is forward Harrison Barnes.

There had been trade rumors surrounding Barnes for well over a year. He was signed with the intention of being the solidified veteran presence in the Kings starting lineup and inked a hefty deal with Sacramento two summers ago. But the team’s immediate plans never came to fruition, and it is likely that Barnes no longer fits the timeline for the future of the franchise.

Above all else, it is his contract that the Kings would be attempting to rid themselves of. Barnes is owed over $38 million over the next two seasons, and the new front office regime may have other ideas about where to allocate that cash to. The trade deadline that recently passed seemed like as good a time as ever to pull the trigger on a deal, but the time came and passed and Barnes remained on the roster. There were plenty of rumors, but no trigger was ever pulled.

Is his value going to be as high this summer as it was when the deadline passed? We may never know what offers came across McNair’s table, but there were undoubtedly teams that came calling. What benefit the Kings saw in keeping Barnes on the roster is unknown, but it could mean that they intend to hold on to him for the duration of his current contract.

Whatever the decision ends up being, it won’t be a surprise. Harrison Barnes on the roster next season is a true toss-up.
