Sacramento Kings who could be traded: Marvin Bagley

One storyline that will rival Richaun Holmes’ headlines over the summer will be the Marvin Bagley saga. Already considered a draft bust by most, Bagley has been in “prove it” mode for a large portion of his career. He has been trying to carve out a solidified role in the Sacramento Kings’ rotation, but between injuries and coaching changes, he has never been able to get into any kind of rhythm.

There are many in the fan base who have given up on Bagley completely. They are ready to cut ties and leave the nightmare that was the 2018 NBA Draft in their rearview mirrors. For most of the 2020-2021 season, Bagley did very little to change the minds of the disgruntled fans. He struggled with injuries and was average at best when he actually saw the floor. But since his return from his latest ailment, the third-year pro has begun to piece together some impressive games, including a three-game stretch in which he averaged 22.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. In doing so, he displayed flashes of the product the Kings thought they were getting when they drafted him with the second overall pick.

Is it enough to persuade the Kings to keep investing in the project that has given them very little production or reason for future optimism? It might have to be. Bagley’s value on the trade market is likely low, and the return package that Sacramento would receive would be lackluster. They are probably better off keeping him and monitoring his snail-pace development in hopes that he finally turns a corner.

But perhaps there is some team out there who is willing to give Marvin Bagley a shot, and maybe he is worth a mid-to-late first-round pick to them. Monte McNair has quite a lot on his plate for his first full offseason as the Kings’ general manager.

Chance of return: 75-85 percent
