San Antonio Spurs goal No. 2: Continue to develop their younger players

The Spurs have 12 players who have completed four seasons or less on their roster. They also face the prospect of losing DeRozan in free agency which means that they are potentially going to have to rely on the younger brigade a whole lot more next season.

Murray is one of the best defensive points guards in the league. He is also averaging 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He needs to become more efficient, particularly from deep where he is shooting at 31.8 percent.

Johnson and White are putting up really good numbers but one or both of these guys will need to step up if DeRozan does leave. Again, they need to be more efficient with the basketball as neither player is hitting at 35.0 percent from deep.

However, it is Devin Vassell is the player who needs to be developed more. He has tremendous defensive instincts and can space the floor with his shooting. Whether he has a large impact for the remainder of this season is not as important as other players. If he can hit the ground running next season then the Spurs will benefit greatly from this.
