The San Antonio Spurs have been a solid team all season. You would expect nothing less from a team coached by Gregg Popovich. They have been led by the veteran DeMar DeRozan who will enter free agency at the end of the year, so is looking to increase his asking price as much as he can.

The Spurs are currently sitting in the 10th seed meaning that they will qualify for the play-in tournament as things stand. This is where the format for this season is beneficial for the Spurs, had it been the old playoff format, the Spurs would have missed out on the post-season for only the second time with Popovich in charge for a full season.

This season the Spurs have benefitted from the balanced production from both their veterans and younger players which has helped them stay relevant. Veterans Rudy Gay and Patty Mills are both averaging double figures, as are younger players Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Keldon Johnson, and Lonnie Walker.

The San Antonio Spurs covered the loss of LaMarcus Aldridge after the buyout.

It is difficult to know if LaMarcus Aldridge has ever been truly happy with the Spurs. He had that time where he was feeling that he was not involved in the offense and wanted out. He left that meeting with Popovich and signed a contract extension.

However, the Spurs have not been competing at the top of the NBA since Kawhi Leonard’s last full season. This season, the two parties agreed to a buyout. After Aldridge joined the Brooklyn Nets, he had to retire due to an irregular heartbeat. The Spurs were able to cover his loss, however, the former star was only averaging 13.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.

With all that in mind, let’s take a look at three goals for the final stretch of the season.
