Washington Wizards goal No. 1: Qualify as high as possible

While this is the goal of every team going into the postseason, the Wizards’ style of play does not translate into wins when they play the Philadelphia 76ers. As things stand, whoever finishes eighth in the East via the play-in will take on the 76ers. The Wizards are yet to win a game against the current No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Conversely, the winner of the play-in series featuring the seventh and eighth seeds will take on the Brooklyn Nets in the next round. The Wizards hold a winning 2-1 record against the all-out offensive juggernaut that is the Nets.

Qualifying much higher than ninth is going to be tough given the final stretch of games the Wizards face. They are on the road for four out of the last six games and face one of the hottest teams in the NBA at the moment twice, the Atlanta Hawks.

They can pull a game back on the Indiana Pacers if they beat them in their remaining match-up which will give them the home-court advantage in the play-in tournament. However, moving up after that becomes hard.

The Wizards are 2.5 games back on the Charlotte Hornets who currently hold the eighth seed. They play each other at the end of the regular season but the Wizards cannot afford to drop a game if they are to get the best seed they can.
