NBA stars and their Star Wars counterparts: Boban Marjanovic = Chewbacca

Right from the jump, this comparison might sounds lazy. Which NBA player is closest to Chewbacca’s measurements of 7’5″ and roughly 300 pounds? That would be Boban Marjanovic, at 7’4″ and 2910pounds. And part of a comparison can be physical, and the two are nearly spitting images of each other.

The comparisons go deeper, however. Chewbacca is one of the most beloved characters of any movie franchise, and especially Star Wars. Fans who critically decide whether they wholeheartedly like other characters such as Luke Skywalker or Anakin Skywalker are all-in on Chewbacca. Even my Star-Wars-ambivalent mother likes Chewie! And guess which player is universally liked in the NBA, no matter which team he plays for or plays against? That’s right, Boban Marjanovic.

The Serbian tower of a center is well-loved for his goofy personality and, more recently, his friendship with former teammate Tobias Harris has gone viral. “Bobi and Tobi” is the best-friends content fans of the NBA need. Boban makes for a perfect wingman for the more shot-happy Harris, just as Chewbacca is a copilot for the shot-happy Han Solo. Tall, lovable, loyal: Bobi and Chewie.
