Minnesota Timberwolves goal No. 1: Development

The Timberwolves have six players who are rookies or who have completed only one season. This is one of the reasons they have struggled throughout the 2020-21 season. They have huge amounts of skill but do not have the experience to beat seasoned veteran teams.

The first player who needs to continue his development is Anthony Edwards. The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA draft had a rough ride at the start of the season. In his first few games, he played well, however in early January, Edwards had a five-game period where he scored a total of 27 points.

Prior to the All-Star break, Edwards was averaging 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Since the break Edwards has been on a tear, averaging 23.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. If he can continue to develop for the remainder of the season then this will benefit the Timberwolves next season.

If they can also develop rookie Jaden McDaniels as well as second-year players Naz Reid, Jaylen Nowell, Jordan McLaughlan, and Jarret Culver, then they will have a stronger roster next season. They could even spend some time developing their third-year players  Josh Okogie and Jarred Vanderbilt for good measure.
