NBA Power Rankings Week 16: Rise of the Phoenix Suns
By Corey Rausch
Utah Jazz
Last Week: Lost to Dallas Mavericks 111-103, Lost/OT to Phoenix Suns 117-113, Beat Portland Trail Blazers 122-103, Beat Sacramento Kings 128-112
This Week: 4/12 vs. Washington Wizards, 4/13 vs. Oklahoma City Thunder, 4/16 vs. Indiana Pacers, 4/17 at Los Angeles Lakers
After dropping two games in a row, a rarity for the Utah Jazz this season, they seem ready to roll off another lengthy win streak with four extremely winnable games on the docket this week. As the only team with 40 wins in the league thus far, their season of dominance is going off in a relatively quiet fashion. Much like the issue of naming an MVP candidate for the team, naming an x-factor is no easy task given the balanced assault the Utah Jazz employ.
Of note, Joe Ingles may have surpassed his own teammate as the front runner for Sixth Man of the Year. He is shooting an extraterrestrial 49.3 percent on 5.5 3-point attempts per game. He is leading the league in effective field goal percentage at 70.3. His overall statistical impact is understated given the fact that he is more a cog in a machine than a top option but that is the beauty of Utah Jazz basketball.
The fact that the Jazz will be entering into the postseason with Ingles, Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, Georges Niang, Donovan Mitchell and Royce O’Neal all shooting greater than 37.6 percent from distance on at least 3.4 attempts per game will be an unbelievable challenge for opponents. So far, the only team who seems up to the challenge is our new number one.
