The Boston Celtics had a very mediocre trade deadline. Considering where the team is standing today at the 8th seed in the Eastern Conference, it was expected that the Celtics would make a big splash at the deadline.

The Celtics made two trades this deadline. The first being a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. The Celtics gave up Daniel Theis, and Javonte Green in return for Moe Wager and Luke Kornet.

The second trade sent Jeff Teague and two second-round picks to the Orlando Magic and got Evan Fournier in return.

The Boston Celtics had a subpar trade deadline in which it is debatable if their roster improved. There are three major players that they should have targeted at the deadline instead.

Breaking down the first trade, the Celtics gave up Theis which was having a very solid season with the Celtics. He was capable of playing the role of a small ball five who could thrive on the glass and be a skilled enough shooter from three that he can stretch the floor.

If things go to plan, Wagner will play a very similar role, however, he will have to play at a higher level to even reach the level of play that Theis was performing at this season.

In terms of the second trade, it was not a bad thing at all to move on from the Jeff Teague era in Boston. However, Fournier was not the right piece to fit in with the current roster.

While he is a great shooter, that is kind of all he is at this point. He is not a good defender by any means, however, that may change now that he is on a team that in the right circumstances has hopes of a deep playoff run.

There are three players that the Celtics should have traded for rather than Wagner, Kornet, and Fournier.
