No. 1: The Knicks should’ve traded for Victor Oladipo

Yeah yeah, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and Victor Oladipo could end up being a one-year rental for any team that traded for him. However, seeing the price tag that was ultimately placed on him, would this have been the worst thing in the world?

Oladipo’s career with the Houston Rockets came to an end via one of the most lopsided trades of the past decades. Was Victor’s trade value so low that Kelly Olynyk, Avery Bradley and a first-round pick swap was enough to seal the deal?

Let’s pause for a second and think of a hypothetical trade package that the New York Knicks could’ve thrown Houston’s way for Oladipo. Elfrid Payton, Kevin Knox and a heavily protected first-round pick.

You’d be insane if you believe that the Rockets wouldn’t accept that proposal in a heartbeat. Kevin Knox, despite not progressing according to plan, is still a young prospect that matches Houston’s plans for a rebuild.

Both Payton and Knox are pretty much expendables in New York’s rotation right now, whereas Oladipo is an All-Star with a bit of playoff experience that fits Tom Thibodeau’s playstyle like a glove.

Worst-case scenario, Victor Oladipo leaves in the summer after helping the Knicks make the most out of this surprisingly good season. The Knicks are left without Payton and Knox. *Insert shrugging emoji to indicate that it wouldn’t matter*.
