NBA Power Rankings Week 14: Trade deadline recap
By Corey Rausch
Last Week: Lost to Philadelphia 76ers 108-98, Lost to Sacramento Kings 141-119, Lost to Atlanta Hawks 124-108
This Week: 3/29 vs. Chicago Bulls, 4/1 at Miami Heat, 4/2 at Toronto Raptors
The Stephen Curry injury has limited the Golden State Warriors significantly, as was to be expected. Curry has missed the last five games due to tail bone inflammation and the Warriors are 1-4 during that time period. Coming into the deadline there were questions on if the team would dump Kelly Oubre Jr. to save luxury tax dollars.
The Warriors did make moves but Oubre was not involved. First, Brad Wanamaker was sent to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for cash considerations. Then the Warriors attached cash to the injured Marquese Chriss to make him a San Antonio Spur. Some of this is about saving money and realizing that team is not as good as they want to be with all of the injuries.
The young players for the Warriors are starting to earn their roles more. In 10 games in March Jordan Poole is averaging 19.7 points per game shooting 41.1 percent from 3-point range. Nico Mannion is averaging 3.3 assists per game and has seemingly cemented himself as part of the rotation. James Wiseman has been named the starter for the rest of the season. If all of this means more losses that might just be okay. The Warriors have two potential bites at the lottery apple, looking especially more likely given the Timberwolves current surge out of the bottom three teams if recent trends continue.
