Pascal Siakam

The blowup this week between Pascal Siakam and coach Nick Nurse is the latest in a long season of mess with the Toronto (Tampa?) Raptors star. Siakam has been fined multiple times this season for conduct detrimental to the team. Now is the time for a team to try to pry him away from the Raptors as the chaos swirls.

The Raptors seem on the edge of a new era. They traded Norman Powell at the deadline and nearly traded franchise star Kyle Lowry. With Lowry being a free agent this summer his time in the North could be limited and the Raptors are already struggling just to contend for the play-in game. Siakam has taken a noticeable dip this season but look no further than last year’s performance to project just what he could be.

During his first All-Star campaign, he averaged 22.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game and is still only 26 years old. He may not be a number one option on a title team but there are very few of those in the league today.

In the right situation, he can still thrive. The question is whether Toronto remains the right situation for Siakam. If he cannot get on the same page with Nick Nurse he may need to go elsewhere.
