NBA players who also had kids play in the league: Manute Bol/Bol Bol

Standing at a gargantuan 7’7″ tall, Manute Bol was larger than life. A second-round pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, Bol is considered one of the greatest shot blockers in league history but didn’t provide much on the offensive end. He led the league in blocks twice, was named to an All-Defensive team, and is the only player in history to retire with more blocks than points.

He is well known for philanthropy and humanitarian work. It is said that he used most of his career earnings to help various causes in Sudan. He also started the Ring True Foundation to raise funds for Sudanese refugees and partnered with Sudan Sunrise to help build schools across Sudan’s southern region.

His son Bol Bol played collegiate basketball with the Oregon Ducks and averaged 21 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks through nine games before a foot injury forced him to sit out the rest of the season. Prior to getting injured, Bol Bol was considered a top prospect and a projected lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, but the injury scared teams enough that he slipped out of the first round entirely and slid all the way down to the 44th overall pick.

Listed at 7’2″ with a 7’8″ wingspan, Bol is supremely athletic and possesses the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter. He certainly has the potential to be a multi-time All-Star; unfortunately for him, he plays for the Denver Nuggets, a team with a deep roster and title hopes, so his development isn’t necessarily a priority for the franchise.
