Should the Indiana Pacers move Malcolm Brogdon at the NBA trade deadline?
Malcolm Brogdon is another surprise trade candidate for the Pacers. Just like Sabonis, he’s having a career season averaging 21.6 points, 6.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game. He’s a perennial candidate for the 50-40-90 club and has career shooting splits of .468/.388/.891
Brogdon is in the second year of a four-year, $85 million deal that takes him through the end of 2022-23, and he’s in his age-28 season. He also has a history of being injury-prone. He’s only played more than 64 games in a season once, although he’s only missed three games so far this year.
Regarding Brogdon, Goodwill reported this:
"The belief is the Pacers feel Caris LeVert can man the point guard adequately enough should they get a real deal for Brogdon"
If they can shed Brogdon’s salary and lean on the newly-acquired Caris LeVert to run the point, the Pacers may find themselves in a better position going forward. LeVert is working himself back into playing condition after missing most of the season following successful surgery to treat a renal cell carcinoma of his left kidney.
He was diagnosed with this carcinoma following his physical examination after getting traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Pacers in the blockbuster James Harden four-team deal in January.
If the Pacers believe in LeVert’s ability to man the point guard position, they should seek to find a trade partner for Malcolm Brogdon.
