Pistons: Analyzing 3 hypothetical NBA trade deadline deals
By Duncan Smith
The Detroit Pistons have been the biggest players in the trade market since the offseason began, and there may be more in store from them before Wednesday’s NBA trade deadline. They’re a team with a handful of untouchables on the roster, but just about everybody else can be had for the right price.
Our friends at Bleacher Report came up with a list of one trade each NBA team can make at the deadline, and thanks in no small part to the Pistons’ reputation as wheelers and dealers, they have several entries in the article.
Analyzing three hypothetical deals the Detroit Pistons can make at the NBA trade deadline
The Pistons have turned over almost the entire roster since Troy Weaver took over as general manager this past offseason. They entered the regular season with just four returning players from last season’s suspended campaign: Blake Griffin, Derrick Rose, Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Sekou Doumbouya.
Since the season began, Griffin got bought out, Derrick Rose was traded for Dennis Smith Jr. and Mykhailiuk was traded to Weaver’s old team, the OKC Thunder, for Hamidou Diallo. Now only Doumbouya remains, and time will tell whether he’ll still be on this team after Wednesday’s NBA trade deadline.
The Pistons could move at least a handful of their new acquisitions, too. Delon Wright and Wayne Ellington have been in the midst of trade rumors since the rumor mill got warmed up earlier this year, and were likely signed to be traded just as much as they were for their on-court contributions.
We’ll take a look at Mandela Namaste’s three hypothetical trades involving the Pistons and evaluate whether these deals would be feasible.
