Should the Dallas Mavericks pass on or pursue rumored trade target J.J. Redick?

The Dallas Mavericks need to add more perimeter shooting before the trade deadline passes. Shooting 36.3 percent from deep on the season, Dallas ranked 17th in 3-point percentage as floor spacing continues to be an apparent issue for the club.

More from Dallas Mavericks

In the market for more shooters, one potential trade target reportedly on their radar is J.J. Redick of the New Orleans Pelicans. The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor noted on a recent episode of The Mismatch podcast that the Mavericks were taking a look at the 36-year-old, who is indeed available for trade.

With the 15th most triples made in NBA history and boasting a career 41.5 3-point percentage, Redick’s resume suggests that he would be a great fit for this Mavericks team. Even in the worst statistical shooting season of his career, currently knocking down just 36.4 percent of his triples this year, Redick would be a good fit for a Dallas team that desperately needs the floor spacing.

Redick would be a great complementary piece next to Luka Doncic, who could certainly get him a handful of open looks on the perimeter per game with his playmaking prowess. Making $13 million this season, the Mavericks could realistically work out a deal with the Pelicans relatively easily if they are looking to offload him. With this team needing to shore up their shooting before the postseason, they should make a run at Redick.

The Verdict: Pursue
