Ricky Rubio

This has not been the season the Minnesota Timberwolves were hoping to get out of Ricky Rubio. He has been outspoken about his issues with the way the team was trending under former coach Ryan Saunders and even before that the fit was awkward. He is averaging career lows in points (8.7), rebounds (3.1) and steals (1.3) per game and his third lowest assist mark (6.7 per game).

Even as the situation is improving with Chris Finch taking over the helm, moving on from Rubio feels like a matter of when, not if. D’Angelo Russell will be back at some point. Malik Beasley and Anthony Edwards can be trusted to run the offense when he is off the court. Getting anything back from another team should be a serious consideration.

Speaking of Finch, the Timberwolves are starting to look closer to a professional basketball team. Wins will be hard to come by with both Beasley and Russell out of the lineup but there is just more reason to what is going on now. Since the coaching change the Timberwolves have three of the top 30 scorers in the league in Beasley (25.5 points per game), Edwards (23.5 points per game) and Karl-Anthony Towns (24.3 points per game). Baby steps.
