Austin Rivers

The New York Knicks are competitive late in the season for the first time in years. They also enter trade season with significant cap space, meaning they do not have to send as much money out to bring in some quality pieces. The Knicks can continue their playoff push without forcing too much of a win-now move through, thus compromising their future flexibility. Given that, the veteran guard most likely to be moved is the one that barely seems to play anymore.

Austin Rivers has been catching “Did Not Play – Coach’s Decisions” since Feb. 13 and that seems unlikely to change. After having a couple of 20-point games in January, Rivers has found himself out of the rotation after the return of Alec Burks, the emergence of Immanuel Quickley and the acquisition of Derrick Rose. Rivers can still play and as a favor to coach Tom Thibodeau’s longtime friend should find himself sent somewhere where he can.

Rivers has been a solid reserve in recent years, hitting clutch shots of the bench for the Houston Rockets in recent years after playing for the Washington Wizards and LA Clippers. A team like the Milwaukee Bucks, who just moved on from their backup point guard D.J. Augustin, could consider giving the Knicks a call.
