Question: Will their stars ever play together, and should they even wait to see?
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ handling of this season has led to many hot takes. The unfortunate truth is that they have still not gotten to see their roster at full health. Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell have only played five games together. This is getting thrown around a lot, but it is not an excuse. It is impossible to judge how two former All-Stars fit if they are never on the court together.
The further issue for these two stars is that they have tended, over the recent seasons, to struggle with injuries. They have always struggled on the defensive end of the court. They may be best friends but the fit on the court does not appear to be one that will lead to much winning.
Anthony Edwards, whether or not he should have been the number one overall pick, will soon be looked at as the future of this franchise. If the Timberwolves are lucky enough to keep their pick in the 2021 draft, the plan should be about who works with Edwards. If nothing else, Towns and Russell continue to prove that they currently cannot be relied on.
