Question: Will the real Tyler Herro please stand up?

Following the run to the NBA Finals last season, hopes (and hype) for then-rookie Tyler Herro were through the roof. The reaction was borderline hysterical, with some Miami Heat fans indicating they would not trade Herro for James Harden.

As questionable as those takes were even in real time, the playoff run was special enough to get excited about. In 21 games, Herro averaged 16.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game with shooting splits of .433/.375/.870. He scored in double figures in every playoff game, highlighted by a 37-point outburst against the Boston Celtics in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

This season has been a little more disjointed. He has missed 11 games for the Heat so far and has struggled with efficiency. He is averaging 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists but the shooting has dropped to .433/.331/.762. So which player is he?

In fairness, he is probably somewhere in the middle. Statistically that may be indiscernible, but it is about confidence and poise. It is tough to imagine him continuing to perform at the level he showed during his first postseason this early in his career, but confidence and talent will never be the issue. Getting healthy, much like the rest of the Miami Heat, should help him improve his efficiency in short order.
