Washington Wizards pass or pursue #1: Andre Drummond
Andre Drummond has been available for quite some time now and so far the Cleveland Cavaliers haven’t found an offer to their liking. The 27-year-old center is in the final year of his deal and owed $28.7 million.
The Wizards could certainly use another center but Drummond is still a Cavalier for a reason. His style of play is retrograde, he’s owed a ton of money, he’s a rental, and no one wants to surrender assets for that package.
Drummond has a skill set that’s still valuable, he is an elite rebounder and can finish near the rim as a rim-runner. However, players with that skillset have found a frosty free-agent market and can usually be acquired for very little investment.
If Drummond gets bought out then the Wizards, along with a whole host of teams, should be interested in his services, but trading for him just doesn’t make much sense. The Wizards would have to offload salary and assets just to bring in an elite rebounder.
The Wizards should take a note from the rest of the league and pass on trading for Andre Drummond. However, if he ends up getting bought out, then the Wizards should go after Drummond like he does rebounds.
