Washington Wizards pass or pursue #2: Myles Turner

Myles Turner was rumored to be available through a trade this past offseason but Indiana opted to keep him around. The six-year NBA veteran has yet to turn 25 and the consistency with which he produces year to year is simply staggering.

Since his rookie season, he has averaged between 12.1 and 14.5 points, 7.3 and 6.4 rebounds, and 1.8 and 3.4 blocks per game. With Turner, you know exactly what you’re going to get and it is hardly ever going to be spectacular.

More from NBA Rumors

Turner still has two more seasons at $18 million apiece on his contract and he’d be the perfect fit for the Wizards’ frontcourt. The Wizards’ defense has been a mess the past couple of years and Turner is a mobile big man with the ability to defend the rim at an elite level.

He isn’t a lights-out offensive threat but his 3-point stroke is credible and he’s a capable finisher at the rim. If the rumors are to be believed that the Pacers are shopping Turner then the Wizards need to be at the top of the line to secure his services.

He’s not a franchise-altering player but when paired with a player like Bradley Beal he helps form a playoff-caliber foundation from which to build around. The rest of the NBA thinks Beal will be gone but if a player like Turner comes in, playing in Washington might be too much fun to leave.

Verdict: Pursue
