Boston Celtics: Evaluating their young players at the mid-way point
Tacko Fall
Similar to Waters, Tacko Fall was offered the same two-way contract and will remain with the Boston Celtics for another year. During his rookie season, one of the things Fall worked hard on was improving the way he maneuvers around the court.
During his rookie year that was primarily spent with the Maine Red Claws in the G-League, Fall averaged a modest double-double of 12.9 points and 11.3 rebounds per game last season.
Fall said that prior to the league shut down last season, he was working through a workout program with Boston Celtics assistant coach, Jay Larranaga, and strongly believes that he has immensely improved his overall game by doing so.
"“Coming out of college pretty much all I would do is run rim to rim and just post up in the block. Here we run a lot of actions through the bigs, especially in the free-throw line area. So being able to handle the ball in there, being able to hand it off to the guards coming off screens, and being able to move without the ball was something I had to learn last year. I’ve done a lot of different things, especially with coach Jay, to be able to help with that.” – Tacko Fall, per John Karalis of MassLive"
Bringing in Fall was always going to be a work in process type of project. But the Celtics are hoping that he will develop into a premier NBA big man, which we saw when the Celtics took on the Washington Wizards earlier in the season and against the Orlando Magic when he banked an open 3-pointer.
Javonte Green
Despite starting both preseason games this offseason, Javonte Green is averaging 12.5 minutes per game so far this season while producing 4.8 points per game in 22 games this season.
Green has been referred to as the “energy guy” for the Celtics. The type of player who can come off the bench and immediately impact the offense and the flow of the team.
We’ve seen that from Green on occasion. When he enters games, the flow of the team and the pace of the game seems to move faster. However, he just doesn’t seem to be consistent enough for the Celtics to regularly use in their rotation.
