The Detroit Pistons found one of the gems of free agency this past offseason when they signed Jerami Grant to a three-year, $60 million contract. In doing so, they secured the cornerstone of their rebuild in one of the first moves of the whole process.

It defied convention. Usually, a rebuild involves stripping everything down for assets and then on the way back up hoping to lure a veteran to join their promising young squad. The Pistons jumped that whole awkward portion of the procedure, and in doing so they gave Grant the opportunity to gamble on himself and his skills.

How Jerami Grant can represent the Pistons in next season’s All-Star Game

While Grant has been fantastic at both ends for the Pistons this season, he won’t be getting an All-Star nod. It’s disappointing, but it’s no snub. His team has the second-worst record in the NBA, and there are too many deserving candidates to find a spot on the Eastern Conference roster.

However, next season presents new opportunities for Jerami Grant, and an All-Star revenge tour may be in his future. We’ll take a look at three things he needs in order to make the cut next season. Some of these will be things in his control, and others may require the assistance of the front office and internal development of players already on this roster.

The fact remains that he’s not far off from All-Star status already, and the following is how he can seal the deal and make his first roster next year.
