Fire sale candidate No. 3: Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are in year one of a true rebuild, and they got here largely via trade. They will most likely continue their rebuild via trade as well.

They have some nearly untouchable pieces, including breakout star Jerami Grant, who was one of the first moves of the rebuild and will also be the franchise cornerstone going forward. Good luck constructing a trade package to pry him away from the Pistons and general manager Troy Weaver.

The Pistons also have a core of rookies who most likely won’t be going anywhere. Killian Hayes struggled before getting hurt just seven games into his debut season, but Saddiq Bey, Isaiah Stewart and Saben Lee have all shown great promise.

This fivesome is staying put, but everything else can go. Delon Wright is out with an injury, but he’ll be back to full strength after the All-Star break and has already garnered interest in the trade market. If Dennis Smith Jr. continues his recent strong play, he may swiftly rehabilitate his trade value and find a match somewhere.

Sekou Doumbouya is unlikely to get traded, as is Blake Griffin (for very different reasons), but Wayne Ellington is a virtual lock to get moved to a contender. The Pistons do have some studs that they won’t tear past, but they’ll gladly move just about everybody else given the chance.
