This season continues to be a rollercoaster for the Denver Nuggets. They are still having trouble getting any level of consistency from game to game but Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray are getting increasingly more in sync, boding well for stringing together wins at some point this year.
This week Murray took the lead, averaging 28.5 points, 5.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He was a little outspoken about there not being any presence defensively down low and he is not wrong. Defense continues to be the Achilles heel for the Nuggets. Denver has a top-five offense and should be able to compete against anyone in the league. Their 17th-ranked defense tends to complicate things. Opponents can seemingly get to the rim at will, the only thing that Jokic does not bring to the table.
The Nuggets are not far away from the team that made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals last season. The unfortunate truth is they are also close to the team that was down 3-1 in the first and second round of the playoffs. If any of the games they had won along the way to come back in those series went another way, the expectations for this season likely fall right around where they are at the moment. Such is the burden of success.
