NBA Week 10 Power Rankings: All-Star Snub Edition
By Corey Rausch
Last Week: Lost to New York Knicks 103-99, Lost to Milwaukee Bucks 139-112, Lost/OT to Chicago Bulls 133-126, Lost to Washington Wizards 128-112
This Week: 2/28 vs. Phoenix Suns, 3/3 vs. Charlotte Hornets
Somehow the Minnesota Timberwolves were one of the biggest stories of the week. Firing your coach and immediately hiring an assistant from another franchise will undoubtedly make any team a story, even the worst team in the league.
This is not a defense of Ryan Saunders. He seems like an objectively great guy while also being an objectively unqualified head coach. But doing something like this in the middle of a season such as this is questionable at best. Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell, ostensibly the two pillars of this franchise beyond number one overall pick Anthony Edwards, have played five total games together. There is no way to appropriately assess this team at this point.
Beyond the messiness of this situation, there is not much else to really talk about regarding the Timberwolves. They continue to have the worst record in the league and lost every game they played this week. Anthony Edwards shows flashes of brilliance but is not efficient enough yet to lead to wins. Malik Beasley has been exceptional but is now facing a 12 games suspension. What a weird year for a team in a multi-decade run of them. Hopefully, Chris Finch can right the ship and put all of this behind them.
